Review of Men with Brooms (2002) by Cynthia S — 26 Jul 2011
While on vacation in Ontario, I was convinced into watching a movie about curling with Leslie Nielsen and that guy from that TV show about the mountie in the US. At first, I balked, like most Americans would.
But I'm a sucker for anything off the beaten path and I love movies about other countries and their cultural boons. Even though curling originally comes from Scotland, it's huge in Canada and after seeing this movie I can see why.
There are a lot of flaws with the film but it does have some good laughs and decent acting. Mostly, if you've never heard of or know nothing about curling, the movie actually teaches you the rules of curling, which I found to be invaluable.
It also features the lovely Molly Parker, she of Deadwood fame, always a plus.
