Review of Men in Black (1934) by Baurushan J — 23 Sep 2012
Hello my name is Baurushan and I'm sorry I haven't been doing reviews for a long time because I was really tired and I didn't get enough sleep throughout the week. Now I'm back to review my latest movie, Men In Black.
Based on the Malibu Comics which Marvel instantly made their own comical version, the original comics were dark and atmospheric and yet this adaptation went for a comedic turn and for the first time, it worked.
Putting a comedic twist into a serious storyline actually worked in this movie. The story is about James Darrel Edwards, a New York Police Deputy who is very athletic and has an anti-authoritarian attitude toward law enforcement.
After chasing down a criminal that actually turns out to be an alien, he is recruited by Agent K and becomes part of a government agency known as the "men in black". The agents are assigned to recover a bauble that contains an entire galaxy been stolen by a terrorist.
Unless now, K and his new partner now renamed J can stop this bad guy, on their side remains a medical examiner who has been zapped too many times by K's memory sapping device. Overall, Men In Black is a smart, funny script that will remain in the hearts of the comic book genre.
The special effects were genius, the action was ok and the jokes were understandably funny. It boosted Will Smith's movie career after Bad Boys and Independence Day. Overall whilst Batman and Robin and Steel killed the comic book genre back in 1997, Men In Black brought made a huge, tough comeback and was later followed by Blade the following year.
Men in Black gets a 10/10.
