Review of Melinda and Melinda (2004) by John R — 08 May 2011
Is life tragic or comedic? It's an interesting question once you think about. It's a good premise too, but with most of the films Woody Allen has made in the 2000's it turns into trite material. The only good thing about the film is Radha Mitchell who plays Melinda in both the comedic and tragic sides of the story.
The tragic part of the story is well done and Chiwetel Ejiofor is good in his part. However, the comedic part is not really funny at all. Will Ferrell is assigned to play the famous Wood Allen Neurotic character, but fails miserably. It's a shame because the rest of the cast is great (Amanda Peet, Steve Carell, Chloe Sevigny), but Allen doesn't fully utilize their talents.
I'm being kind to this movie, but Radha Mitchell is the only thing keeping this movie from being a disaster. The comedy story is so bad and unfunny that it should been the tragic story instead.
