Review of Melancholia (2011) by David D — 27 Nov 2012
And I thought Children of Men was depressing. This movie is so depressing I started feeling symptoms of depression that are oh so familiar to me. That being said it is a spectacular work of art. Not one that I would see over and over again, but the visuals are stunning, the music hypnotic and the stellar cast of actors, including Kirsten Dunst who has finally graduated to adult roles.
The premise of the story doesn't hold together but it's simply a mechanism by which to explorer depression, melancholy and the utter paralysis that ensues, the feeling of helplessness and the insurmountable fear.
