Review of Meek's Cutoff (2011) by Paul W — 04 Oct 2011
I love westerns. I can watch slowly developing narratives. This film fails because you don't have enough character development to invest in any of these folks. The director uses an austere, slow moving story that relies on anticipation to hold your attention but then doesn't deliver the goods.
Wide open are the spaces and wide open is the non ending. Probably the most dramatic aspect of this tale is the omnipresence of a eerily squeaking wagon wheel. Yep, that wagon wheel stole the show....
