Review of Meek's Cutoff (2011) by Ethan T — 19 May 2011
Meek's Cutoff isn't a classic drama, but it deserves plaudits for its authentic low-budget recreation of the gruelling settler wagon train experience. As befitting the majestic scenery, many of the shots are starkly beautiful, and the film's core dynamic - can the settlers trust their quixotic scout Meek, or the captured Indian guide who they've pressed to lead them to much-needed water - is skilfully addressed in this simple, minimalist but compelling little film.
