Review of Meek's Cutoff (2011) by Randall A — 20 Sep 2011
Yes Meek's Cutoff is very realistic, in that it tries to evoke the sense of length and sparseness a westward journey in 1845 would have had. The only problem with this, is that there is little enjoyment in it.
Also I didn't particularly find the cinematography or the performances (with the exception of Bruce Greenwood) interesting. There was a lot of potential in the overall concept, but because the filmmaker tried to go with an ultra realistic pace and feel, he ended up sapping any enjoyment the film could have had.
