Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Adrian B — 26 Dec 2010
"Mean Streets" is absolutely disorginized, bizarre, fascinating classic that launched the career of Martin Scorsese. The film is truly unusual and yet it highly succeeds. It is like "The Big Sleep" in the sense that the plot is quite confusing and highly all over the place and at times, very funny.
Like "The Big Sleep," "Mean Streets" plot is essentially messed up, but highly entertaining and original thanks to the fine actors of Keitel, Robinson, and of course, De Niro. After watching this, De Niro, in fact, just became one of my favourite actors.
The camera techniques are also really interesting. I really, really liked this film, and I had wanted to see it for quite some time. It may be a very weird and vulgar, but I highly reccommend it due its originality and exciting acting.
