Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Brendan W — 27 Mar 2011
It's interesting to see the beginnings of Scorsese's style come through, but I find the movie itself to be incredibly overrated. It's disjointed, downright boring and horrifically dubbed at parts.
I have no idea what Harvey Keitel's character was trying to accomplish, if anything. It ends suddenly and seemingly without purpose. I don't know really know what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't this.
De Niro is definitely the highlight. Really, a film with the title "Mean Streets" deserves a lot better.
