Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) by Lenard W — 09 Jul 2015
I would call it a pretentious mess, but that would mean it is high-minded. Greg makes classic films with minor changes with his friend Earl. When his classmate Rachel is diagnosed with leukemia, Greg attempts to learn the value of friendship.
The big joke is Greg is ungainly awkward and his awkwardness aliens people so he maintains distance to stay off his classmates' radar. He has a cool history teacher who eats Asian fusion and respects their opinions.
However, Greg is a complete idiot and has no empathy. When Rachel's mom continuously hits on Greg and could have been his inspiration for a new Graduate movie, Greg remains oblivious.
