Review of McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) by Kieran T — 26 May 2008
This film has been called an "anti-western"... and it shows. Music by Leonard Cohen adds to the incessant sadness throughout the entire movie (seen also in its characters, sets, and even its weather).
Altman treats the audience as smart viewers, not feeling that everything has to be explained, that we will figure relationships and dialogue out for ourselves.
