Review of McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) by Douglas H — 28 Nov 2008
One of Altman's many 70's masterpieces, this western haunts. Beatty is just right as the businessman who gets in over his head while Christie is the smart woman limited by the time period she lives in.
The final images of both characters linger as does a startling scene on a bridge when an innocent cowboy (a very young Keith Carradine) encounters hired hitmen. The dialogue is rich and vital and thematically has much to say about business, both big and small.
I am one of those who loves the soundtrack of Leonard Cohen songs.
