Review of Masculin Féminin (1966) by Cecily H — 28 May 2007
I shamefully had this sitting in my collection for almost a year before I finally watched it the other week. I have to admit not having been a huge Godard fan up to this point (not yet managed the whole of Le Mepris, although I did like Au Bout de Souffle), but somehow this film really struck me.
I'm not sure exactly why, but I love the way it's episodic and the contrast of the romance between the two protagonists and the contrast with the random acts of violence and the atmosphere it creates of Paris in the sixties.
"The Children of Marx and Coca-Cola" sums it up beautifully.
