Review of Masculin Féminin (1966) by Jared P — 12 Jul 2010
A critique on the empty idealism of 60s youth. Godard's free-form radical New Wave (reportage) style is at times inconsistent, empty & devoid of genuine emotion (albeit this was Godard's intention to simply document the times).
At other times its full of insite. Goya is beautifully photographed & many segments work really well with his still camera/close-up technique allowing us to fully observe the characters rections- e.
G segment 11 when we watch them watching at the cinema is wonderful, & segment 12: we watch the girl being quizzed while she eats an apple with the camera embracing her. However, overall its never complete, its abit dated & its too difficult to get attached to the film as a whole.
