Review of Mary Reilly (1996) by Matthew F — 25 May 2005
Why You Should See This Movie:
John Malkovich is pretty impressive as the schizophrenic doctor bringing two distinct characters to the screen.
Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:.
Julia Roberts actually is pretty unimpressive possibly because of the boring character she had to play, but also partially because of her crappy acting. The directing effects and music intended to help create the spooky atmosphere were ineffective and did nothing to make me feel anxious or scared. The story is the same old thing told from a perspective that isn?t very interesting making for a film that really didn?t need to be made.
Conclusion:.
Mary Reilly is a pretty boring film that would be a complete waste were it not for John Malkovich?s impressive performance as Dr. Jekyll.
