Review of Mary Queen of Scots (2018) by Peggy B — 29 Dec 2018
Read up on your Elizabeth/England and Mary/Scotland history to prep for this film. And, don't leave your seat for the duration. I popped out to use the restroom for a scant few minutes and missed a Civil War! The storytelling technique of ping-ponging between Elizabeth & Mary was creative and engaging but also requires rapt attention, don't even blink.
Beatiful costumes, scenery, effective acting (not Academy Award level though) helped steady the frenetic timeline pacing. The developing personal vs power relationship between the two Queens was the most interesting, making the inevitable & historic destiny of Mary all the more tragic.
Worth seeing if you have a bent towards being an Anglophile or Scottish aficionado.
