Review of Martian Child (2007) by Lilo C — 01 Feb 2009
Sci-fi author John Cusack makes a project of 'peculiar' orphan Bobby Coleman. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience for Cusack and, like any parent, he fails at times, but keeps trying even as his next sci-fi writing project languishes.
The only question dangling is whether the child is from Mars or if he is just unique because there are a few peculiar coincidences not fully explained. Joan Cusack (John's real-life sister) does a nice turn as a harried, but together soccer mom sister to John as he goes through the challenges with the Martian Child.
Anjelica Huston plays the demanding publisher expecting another schlocky sci-fi sequel book from John Cusack, but instead comes to tears when she reads Cusack's book about his 'Martian Child'.
