Review of Maria Full of Grace (2004) by Ray D — 04 Jan 2008
Sad meditation focusing on a seventeen year old columbian who takes a job as a drug mule for the money and the chance to travel -- it's a quiet film, but powerfully shot, mostly in the way the camera lingers on characters, giving it the feel of a documentary.
The girl who plays Maria, Catalina Moreno, and the other 'mules' are very good, and the film does a powerful job of putting a human face on issues of drugs and poverty by focusing on Maria and her family.
