Review of Mao’s Last Dancer (2009) by Se7Enth A — 30 Sep 2010
It is an inspiring and captivating true story of dancer Li Cunxin. The remarkable Birmingham Royal Ballet principal dancer Chi Cao debuted as Li, achieving extraordinary emotional impact easily. The real force of the film, comes more from the magic of the dance than the story of Li's life who was plucked from his poverty-stricken rural family in Shandong province at age 11 to train at the Beijing Dance Academy.
An award winning Australian filmmaker Beresford captures the beauty of the ballet sequences, and that's beautiful to watch.
