Review of Manic (2001) by Bryan D — 28 Aug 2008
I put off watching this for a long time, cuz I saved it in my tivo based on the fact that it has Zooey Deschanel and it sounded interesting. I'm glad I finally watched it.
It's an extremely powerful film, and what achieves that is the amazing level of realism that is portrayed in this film. Not just with the acting, which is phenomenal, but the way it's shot really makes it seem like it could be a documentary, but at the same time the director uses really tight closeups and some great angles to make every shot show exactly what needs to be shown to set the mood and tell the story. And like I said, the acting performances are amazing. I mean, the actors weren't playing the characters in this film, they WERE the characters. Just terrific work all around on this one.
