I first read about this movie in Fangoria. "Holy crap, that guy from Evil Dead is playing a cop that battles a zombie cop!" I rented it the very day it was released on video and it has been a favorite ever since.
Lustig takes a wacky premise and plays it totally straight, to good effect. I've taken alot of abuse over the years for loving this movie, but what the hell do you people want? It's a zombie cop movie.
Another example of a good director with respect for the genre applying real skill to a B-movie.
