Review of Manhattan (1979) by Matt M — 29 Jul 2013
By this point, people had already become acquainted with Allen's intelligence in portraying the love machinations of the New York intellectual crowd in a delightful and genuinely funny satirical way.
With Manhattan he returned to that world with added grace and a more nostalgic style, including the usual perfect use of a jazz soundtrack and a wonderful black and white photography which indeed feels like a glorification of its titular setting.
Already a modern classic at the time of its release, Manhattan is not only among the best film by Woody Allen but also one of the most poignant looks at the myth of romanticism and the mystery of adult and mature relationships.
