Review of Man with a Movie Camera (1929) by Emma B — 11 Nov 2010
This film ambitiously proclaims, in an opening title card sequence, that it aims to create a new language of filmic expression, completely divorced from the language of stage or literature. It is largely successful.
Despite its lack of narrative (it really is just a collage of film techniques), it makes the case well by creating drama and emotion from various film styles, cutes, transitions, and the like. It will probably only appeal to the art analysis enthusiast.
