Review of Make Way for Tomorrow (1937) by Byron B — 30 May 2008
This was the inspiration for Ozu's TOKYO STORY and Tamara Jenkins' recent film THE SAVAGES. Leo McCary's film addresses the question of what to do with the parents when they can't support themselves any longer.
The answer: Split them up, shuffle them around among the siblings, and ensure that they will live out their lives never seeing each other again. If this doesn't jerk some tears from you, you just aren't human!
