Review of Make Mine Music (1946) by Liana R — 04 Jun 2011
Made after Fantasia but you really wouldn't think it from the qaulity. This is like Fantasia's little brother that wants to prove himself but tries to hard. The animation lacks the quality of the two Fantasia films but it also doesn't have as interesting music pieces either.
Overall Make Mine Music is an extremely forgettable film and I am sure that most of you are wondering right now what this movie even is. I hadn't heard about it until I saw it on the list of classics and I will simply tell you that there is a good reason that it has never ben mentioned nor seen. Pretty much it is a cheap Fantasia, nothing but musical numbers along with animated shorts.
The animation is not without a little bit of cleverness and originality but it is so sub par that it feels like it was half assed and rushed. The music also feels very dated and the audio does not come off as being well recorded. My advice? Skip this one, but I'm sure you would've done that anyways. In fact, you would have never known it existed had I not mentioned it.
