Review of Magnolia (1999) by Heath T — 28 Nov 2015
Happiness. Dread. Sorrow. Droll. Anger. Pessimistic. Optimistic. No other film before or since has made me feel all of these things at one. Magnolia, I believe will go down as PTA's finest work. From the soundtrack to the editing to the cinematography/direction to the writing to the performances (including a career defining performance from Tom Cruise), everything about this movie clicks. This is one of those 3-hour films that goes by really fast. There is no plausible way to express how much emotion and atmosphere this film gives off so you have to see it for yourself.
You know those lists of "X Number of Films You HAVE to See Before Die"? Yeah, Magnolia is probably in the top 20, if not top 15. A masterpiece.
