Review of Machete (2010) by Raymond G — 27 Nov 2011
A CRAZY GOOD TIME!!!! If you looking for bloody, outlandish action and a good, offbeat and humorous story to follow that is filled with beautiful woman, a silent ass-kicking hero and hilarious comedy then you've come to the right place!
In the same vein of his "Grindhouse" offering, "Planet Terror," Robert Rodriguez did it again. The story is marginally plausible, if a bit outlandish. A senators flunky played by Jeff Fahey sets up our hero Machete (Danny Trejo) in a wicked double cross between the said Senator (Robert De Niro) and a drug lord Torrez (Steven Seagal) all in a huge bid to control the border between Mexico and the USA... its a bit to digest yes, but that just makes the movie that much more authentic as I can say I haven't seen a movie of this caliber since the age of "Death Wish" with Charles Bronson. Recent immigration issues aside, I feel that this movie will open way for a bit of serious discussion afterwards about somethings that were mentioned as it did between me and my friends.
Everyone puts on great performances namely, Robert De Niro and Steven Seagal who are drop dead spot on and hilarious (wait till you see Seagal's final speech LOL!) Lindsay Lohan was pretty good as her introduction was a huge mockery of how she's been portrayed in the media recently. I felt Jessica Alba had a pretty cool role as an Immigrations Officer who hunts Machete. She wrestles with her own right-wing kind of mentality because she's all about forcing the law and doing what the system tells you. Michelle Rodriguez was awesome too, wait till you see her transformation into a tough girl liberation leader. I always like her and she always gives good acting. Last but not least, I LOVED Cheech Marin as the pistol packing priest and Don Johnson in his off the wall portrayal of a twisted border vigilante leading a small army.
Overall, this movie is straight up bizarre but when you watch the movie, everyone has their place and everyone fits in very well. Everyone plays their character really well and I guarantee you will love it as much as I did. My only complaint is that I wish this movie came out EARLIER! GO SEE IT!!!!
