Review of Machete (2010) by Mark N — 02 Apr 2012
Poorly plotted and mostly fun free. The grimy grindhouse filter comes out to grade the film and the opening looks and feels right.. then 10minutes in.. the filter goes off and so does the plot. The campy fun of recreating exploitation movies got totally lost in the mid section and while it was cool they recreated the scenes from the fake trailer into the full movie the film was pretty boring.
The final battle is a silly mess and not using squibs might be authentic but it smacks of cheapness. Trejo has never been a leading man and his lack of range did nothing for the empty space he had to fill.
