Review of Machete (2010) by Aaron V — 26 Oct 2012
Machete Is one of those outstandingly very, very bad movies. Its saving grace, the entire script being utterly aware of its own ridiculous outlandishness. From the first minutes the audience knows just what to expect from Machete, and even though the script is horrendously absurd, it does throw a couple of curve balls making sure it stays fresh. At 105 minutes the movie does not overstay its own welcome.
It remains a film perfectly tailored to its target demographic, delivering a witty (in a sense), ultra violent experience that captivates its audience during its entirety.
The bottom line is Machete delivers what it promises. It is not a film with much dept, what little it has gets overshadowed by the onscreen violence and more graphic violence. Those who have seen the film would have to agree that yes, there is a distinction between the two. Machete is one of those films you know you're going to like or loath before pressing play. For those who do, it delivers and exceeds expectations.
