Review of Machete (2010) by Dc E — 07 Feb 2012
"Machete" 10 Scale Rating: 2.0 (Terrible) ...
Fans of the film will tell me that I just didn't get it, as if there is something deeper to "get". They will also tell me that it was supposed to be campy and cheesy and that I need to lighten up. Unfortunately, there is a fine line between campy/cheesy and retarded/lame ... "Machete" crosses that line, urinates on it, and then sets it on fire as it flies by.
Machete is an ex-government operative who gets betrayed. His family is murdered and he is left for dead. Fast forward X amount of years and he is now a migrant worker who works odd construction jobs. After crossing paths with the organization who double crossed him, he sets out to finally get revenge.
Yeah, I expected it to be over-the-top violent and believe it or not didn't go into a movie titled "Machete" expecting a deep and complex storyline. I expected it to push the envelope and be entertaining. Instead, it was just flat out stupid.
I'd say that I don't recommend it, but the movie seems to have a following. Why I will never know ...
