Review of Machete (2010) by Jamie B — 29 Jul 2012
*Note to Sly Stallone: In my mind, this is a near perfect example of how totally badass The Expendables COULD have been had it been done right. In Robert Rodriguez's trademark, over-the-top style with a generous helping of flair for the dramatic, Machete has soooooo much to offer viewers.
It boasts blood and gore in all sorts of configurations, featuring everything from explosions to hand to hand combat both with and without various and sundry exotic and not so exotic weaponry. But that's not all! It also has plenty of other manly-movie stuff like hot naked chicks, hot clothed chicks, Robert De Niro, more hot clothed chicks, more hot naked chicks, Steven Seagal, and cars with hydraulics and heavy artillery just to name a few.
Then on top of all of that there's the genius casting. Watch for some unexpected treats in the mix. The cherry is the great sense of humor and personality to go along with. No one will ever accuse Robert Rodriguez of being too subtle, but somehow all that craziness works for him.
