Review of M (1931) by Thaddeus O — 09 Jul 2008
Fritz Lang is probably best known for his dystopian flick "Metropolis," but this is a haunting masterpiece worth checking out. My only reservation--and it is a slight one--is that the very last line of dialogue is a bit enigmatic for me.
Some films have a way of indelibly marking an image, a piece of music, or an object, like the "M" that emblazoned Beckert's shoulder. I will never hear Peer Gynt ("In the Hall of the Mountain King") again without having a chilling, sinister association.
