Review of M (1931) by Brian R — 01 Apr 2011
First of all, this is my first Fritz Lang film, as I am still a novice in viewing films from the history of cinema.
But I must say - Wow. The images, the performances and the tone are still burned into my mind after seeing it. Peter Lorre is magnificent as the tortured killer, so powerful in fact that, along with his delivery of his excrutiatingly sad dialogue, I actually felt sympathetic for him. Intense moral issues are being juggled in this one.
As I watched M, I was really surprised to see techniques that Lang used were very similar to the ones of today's filmmakers, which has led me to believe that this was a very influential film. What a movie. I can't really describe how much I enjoyed watching this story unfold. I am definitely enticed by seeing Lang's other films through my journey.
