Review of Lust, Caution (2007) by Lee B — 11 Jul 2009
2.85 stars. A lot of buzz surrounded this film due to its graphic nature and subject matter, which probably heightened my expectations unnecessarily. The characters were interesting and had compelling underwritten motives, but the plot seemed to be tedious at some points, as the film's emotions were ones of extremes, running very hot or frigidly cold making me feel that everything in between just seemed laborious.
I was visually impressed by the settings, costumes, and color which gave me the feel and the will to be interested in the haves and have nots of China during this period, but unfortunately this film came across as Ang Lee's least interesting film since "The Hulk" not the successor to "Brokeback Mountain.
