Review of Lucky You (2007) by Robert T — 01 May 2008
Honestly, the film wasn't that bad. Though there were several weak moments, ie: the pace, but there were also some great moments. I was a little hesitant to view this film at first, and I have to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Drew Barrymore, but she was pretty descent in this film.
The main actor wasn't too bad, either. One of the problems I had in the film was the lack of character developments. All of them bored me to tears, and I don't think any really stood out, except the main character, but barely.
The film's story and plot was alright, nothing to rave about, but it wasn't that entertaining, and it didn't really draw me in. Maybe because I'm not a huge fan of poker, but the film failed to interest me in any aspects that were present -- including the World Championship Tournament toward the end of the film.
Gosh, is it just me or are all "professional" gamblers shallow and think they're all that? I just found that kind of dumb. Anyway, the film's chemistry between the two main characters were somewhat believable.
I was hoping for more, but what happened in the film was descent enough. But overall, the film was there, but lacked a strong connection with the audience. The story and plot were laid out on the table, but didn't interest me all that much.
Plus, the film was fairly long itself. Watching people play poker is fun for a little while, but for more than two-hours, it gets boring very quickly.
