In what is probably Corey Haim's best performance, Lucas is a film that is almost impossible to dislike.

Corey Haim plays Lucas, a boy genius of sorts, who is obsessed with bugs and learning about new things. During the summer he meets Maggie (Kerri Green) a pretty girl who has just moved in from out of town. While the two seem to be polar opposites, they hit it off. They spend the rest of the summer together going on adventures and by the start of the school year they become very close. However, things soon change when Maggie gets involved with Cappie (Charile Sheen) a school jock, but one who doesn't flaunt it. And he is one of the only jocks who treats Lucas with respect. As Cappie and Maggie's relationship heats up, Lucas becomes more and more jealous. With no one to turn to, he begins making rash decisions.

Lucas isn't a movie masterpiece, but it is a heartwarming and simple story. Corey Haim's portrayal of a boy trying to find a place in high school is near perfect. I myself can relate to many of the aspects of his performance. Kerri Smith who was the poster girl in the 1980's plays her usual role of the popular cheerleader fine. It is very similar to her character in The Goonies. Charlie is also good as the jock, but one with a sweet side.

Lucas isn't an award winning film by any means, but it is a film that will leave you satisfied. There are some great performances, especially by Haim, who even though he never turned into the star everyone thought he'd be; he proves with this performance that there was reason for talk. Lucas is a a great coming of age story that'll really get the tears a flowin.
