Review of Love's Labour's Lost (2000) by Jordan W — 05 Jul 2011
Branagh discovers his inner Busby Berkely ... and I really wish he hadn't.
I get what he was trying to do with the 1930s setting, and the song and dance numbers and all, (I really do) - but it just doesn't work. Mostly because the entire cast (with the exception of Nathan Lane) can't pull off a big musical number in proper Hollywood/Broadway/West End style. I ended up fast-forwarding through the songs as they were just too painful to watch.
All I learned from this film is that Alicia Silverstone CANNOT do Shakespeare, and Adrian Lester can dance a bit.
