Review of Lovelace (2013) by Laurent P — 15 Aug 2013
If this was a fictional story, I would have liked this movie a lot more. But I've read the accounts of others about Linda. She is described as a willing and enthusiastic beastialist, and masochist.
And there is film to prove it. Also, the casting choice of the doe-eyed and lovely Seyfried smacks of audience manipulation. It is very easy to sympathize with Seyfried's Lovelace since, she physically embodies the type of lovely girl next door who's finger begs for a wedding ring and most men would want to protect.
But the real Lovelace was not as straight-forward. A willing victim, and perverse, deviant, hypocrite is not a champion of the sexual revolution. Nor was she a reliable representative of domestic abuse, since her sexual tastes include animal abuse and her complicity in a masochistic marriage and lifestyle negates her victimhood.
She was a sick and sickening woman, not a damsel in distress.
