Review of Love & Other Drugs (2010) by Roy Hector K — 21 Aug 2011
I never liked Jake Gyllenhaal. He's a good actor, but his eyes are not expressive enough for you to be able to emphatize with him. As for this movie, the trailer made it look like your typical romantic comedy, with Jake's character as the smooth-talking womanizer, while Anne Hathaway was the lady with whom he finally met his match.
So I was quite surprised when I learned that the movie turned out to be different. It was much better than I thought it was because it worked on different levels. First it showed an interesting peek of the life of a Medical Representative in the US. And then there's also Jake's relationship with Anne's character, which turns out to have a lot challenging aspects, much more than what the trailer would have us believe.
Its a pretty good movie, in fact it is one of the best which I would consider on my list as a modern, romantic-comedy (add in drama) classic. The last movie on that list was the excellent "What Happens in Vegas". And I think this is even better than the last romantic comedy I saw, "No Strings Attached".
As a bonus, you do get to see a lot of Anne Hathaway's tits. It seems it was just awhile ago when Anne was starring in Disney movies, but now she shows off her tits, her butt, her whole body ... It was as nice as I expected it to be. Lots of very suggestive and sex scenes also.
A must-see movie for me.
