Review of Love & Other Drugs (2010) by Tom B — 26 Dec 2012
A charged performance by Anne Hathaway makes this movie worth seeing despite a predictable ending. Hathaway makes her complex, somewhat erratic character totally believable. In comparison, Gyllenhaal seems pretty one note, even though the story is really about his character, Jamie, growing up.
Also interesting in the movie is the all too true depiction of the lengths pharmacy representatives will go to to get doctors to prescribes their wares. Jamie's insincere charm and amorality enables him to be wildly successful.
While both Hathaway and Gyllenhaal have amazing bodies, the nudity is really beyond what is needed for the story and seems exploitive. Great sets for Maggie's studio/apartment.
