Review of Love & Mercy (2015) by Adrian B — 18 Jan 2016
Watched this because I figured Paul Dano would be great (and he was), but in no universe did I expect to be more impressed with John Cusack, which I was. Really interesting shots; very sad and well done film all around and I have no complaints other than maybe Elizabeth Banks casting and some plot points left out.
There was a lot of ambiguity around what caused Wilsons' hallucinations, but showing the progression ambiguously could be a great filming tactic too. In an odd way I am also proud of Elizabeth Banks for consistently pushing for more challenging roles, even if she never/rarely delivers.
I am honestly just so proud of John though, stay on this path please.
