Review of Love & Mercy (2015) by Paul O — 17 Sep 2015
I like maybe 3 Beach Boy songs. It may be more of my father's genre. However I though the movie did a fantastic job in depicting two periods of Brian Wilson's life. An excellent Biopic movie. I thought Paul Dano did an excellent job in depicting Brian Wilson's younger self.
Kudos to Paul and he out did John Cusack in this movie. It tries to shine a light on mental illness and how stigma and misdiagnosis can nearly destroy someone especially if they have a Psychiatrist that is out to take advantage of them and especially for their own self interest.
I believe the Psychiatrist may have very well been more mentally ill than Brian. Brian is a musical genius that had an ungrateful and abusive father, battled depression, and was able to overcome through new discovery of oneself and the love and dedication of a fantastic woman who became his wife.
I enjoyed this movie and recommend it for rental but maybe not the full price of seeing it in a Theatre. If you like the Beach Boys, it's a must watch and is full of some of their best songs. After watching this movie, I have a new admiration for Brian Wilson, and a new found like for some of their top hits.
