Review of Love & Mercy (2015) by James P — 06 Jun 2015
A very unique screen biography, and without question the greatest and most convincing cinematic look at the creative process (as opposed to the life of the creative artist) I have ever seen. Paul Giamatti gives his finest (and scariest) screen performance--the Best Supporting Actor Oscar is his.
Paul Dano as the young Brian Wilson and John Cusack as the older Brian are equally convincing and heartbreaking. Elizabeth Banks as the sympathetic "friend indeed" Melinda is also excellent, as is Jake Abel as Carl, the most pragmatic and outspoken member of the Beach Boys.
I can't recommend this film highly enough.
