Review of Love & Mercy (2015) by Kay Q — 15 Aug 2015
With two narratives from different times in Brian Wilson's life intercutting each other, sometimes there is so much going on, you almost wish they had made a mini-series instead so there's more space for the stories to breath.
Individually, those narratives can be conventional because you'll guess where the story is heading - but that perhaps is underselling the film as there are some good acting here and the way it is cleverly juxtaposed and presented, elevates what would've been another rock n' roll biopic into a higher and more special/less televisual level.
Paul Dano and Elizabeth Banks are both a joy to watch and isn't it nice to see DTV-Cusack doing something understating and more befitting his acting abilities?
