Review of Love & Mercy (2015) by Joe M — 10 Jan 2016
Absolutely wonderful. The studio scenes are done in such a thrilling way that it puts some action movies to shame. The movie is also quite fantastic to look at. The scenes set in the late eighties and early nineties are dull and drab which pretty much recalls the aesthetic of the era. Meanwhile the scenes set in the sixties pop and are quite vivid. I also liked the touch of the 8mm cameras.
Where the film really shines though is with Paul Dano and John Cusack. They are both on the exact same page co-playing Brian Wilson, Dano representing Wilson's past while Cusack plays his "future". Both deserve Oscar nominations.
I can only put it as simply as this; Love & Mercy is one of the years best films. See it!
