Review of Love Affair (1939) by Anna Margarethe O — 24 Aug 2010
The plot is out there in the ether, you've more or less seen this thing before you've seen it. Later incarnations of the film only lead to fruitless quibbling (over actors, perceived chemistry, McCarey's opportunism, b&w vs colour) but overall this is an expansive soft-spot in Hollywood's catalogue.
With enough champagne cocktails, you'll find your tears jerked and your emotions expertly played.
