Review of Lost City Raiders (2008) by Oxana . — 25 Mar 2010
First I was thinking, "maybe this is a weak 3 star movie". Soon I began to think "maybe 2 and a half is fair". Eventually I settled with 2, because that is the most honest rating I can give this movie.
The premise was good, although the animation was quite bad. Soon I figured out that this movie aimed high, but didn't get there at any point, which usually makes bad movies seem even worse.
The characters were flimsily introduced. I guess they were supposed to look cool, and the entire premise was supposed to be exhilarating. The plot was quite ridiculous, although bearable. There was some "fancy" camera work, though its only purpose was to ruin any action there was and jump over them to move comfortable scenes.
The "romance" in the movie was so weak and tasteless - not to mention unreal - that it made me gag almost literally. There was one old couple that knew each other from before, although I didn't see much passion going on there, and then another who just... well, figured out they suddenly liked each other very much without any explanation at all.
All in all the movie was very naïve in a lot of ways, although still a bit grim, and I'm beginning to think that the age group this movie is directed to is pretty young, because really, with that plot and execution you don't get very far with anyone who has seen better movies, I'm sorry.
The faults of the plot and ridiculous turns of events, not to mention some continuity problems within scenes, made me shake my head in more than one places.
