Review of Lorna's Silence (2008) by Quiche E — 03 Oct 2009
It may be my least favorite of the five Dardenne films that I've seen (mainly due to the unusual reliance on narrative contrivance), it is still an incredibly beautiful and moving film of unmistakable power.
Like their other films, the primary focus is on the moral development of its protagonist. It also features what is probably the bleakest ending of all their films. It's not easy viewing - it'll be a long time before I feel a desire to watch it again - but it is essential for those interested in the work of some of the greatest, most moral and most intelligent film artists working today.
