Review of Lord of Illusions (1995) by William R — 05 Jan 2011
This film, directed by Clive Barker, takes us into a world of magic, demons and religion. Although I'm not sure that this really counts as a horror movie, I enjoyed it a great deal. This film centres around Harry D'Amour, a private investigator, who must stop a supernatural cult from raising Nix, a man with god-like powers and who was killed 13 years before.
The use of music gives the film an epic scale, which it wouldn't have had otherwise. This film tries to mix horror and fantasy, something it doesn't seem to do very well, but it is still an amazing film which did draw me in.
Those who want to see blood and people dying will get their wish. The part when Nix returns makes me laugh because of the blind devotion his followers show him. The reason this makes me laugh is because most of them die.
I would give this film 7 out of 10 overall because, although it was good, I have seen better.
