Review of Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World (2006) by Kevin D — 24 Sep 2007
Trips over its own convoluted conceptuality. Albert Brooks is hilarious onstage as Albert Brooks, the talentless stand-up hack. But the character is less amusing out in the real world, where he isn't allowed to behave so outrageously.
And while Brooks has some promising satirical ideas, none get a satisfactory execution: the ending, where his fact-finding mission destabilizes the region, is only depicted with a closing epigraph.
